November 13, 2009, Newsletter Issue #5: Know Your Neighbors

Tip of the Week

One step to staying safe while living in the dorms is knowing your neighbors. It’s always important to know who lives around you so you can identify someone who’s not supposed to be there. During your first day living in the dorms, meet the people who live around you. Also, get to know those who will be important to you, like the resident assistant and other dorm staff. Take time to find out who to contact in an emergency. This way if you see someone in the dorm that shouldn’t be there, you can immediately contact the right person. If someone appears suspicious or is carrying a weapon of any kind, do not approach them. Instead go back to your room, lock the door and immediately call 9-1-1 or campus security.
