December 18, 2009, Newsletter Issue #10: Drugs And Alcohol in the Dorms

Tip of the Week

Many dormitories prohibit alcohol from bring consumed on the premises. These are often buildings that have many underaged students living in them. In addition, all colleges prohibit the use of illegal substances. Breaking these rules can get you in trouble and leave you facing discipline and possibly getting kicked out of your dorm. It can also put you at a safety risk. Most crimes against college students involve drugs or alcohol, so you could be inviting trouble. In addition, if there is any kind of crisis in your dorm – like a fire – after using drugs or alcohol, chances are you won’t be in any shape to respond and get out safely. Be aware of the dorm rules and follow them. They keep you safe and let you continue to have a roof over your head while completing your college degree.
